Somatic Archaeology© (SA) is a specific therapeutic approach designed by Dr. Ruby Gibson to mediate and reduce detrimental intergenerational effects and augment positive characteristics of Historical Trauma recovery. In this approach, familial, cultural, religious, and environmental influences are explored using a method designed to inform and empower people to create wellness for themselves, and to thereby change patterns passed on to their children. This method is explained in Dr. Gibson’s book, My Body, My Earth, The Practice of Somatic Archaeology (iUniverse 2008).
These breathing exercises are designed to reduce tension and stress, harmonize our system, allow for emotional expression, and provide spiritual relief. Uniquely created as a companion to the book, My Body, My Earth, these products establish an empowered relationship with our body and the wisdom within.
Stress and tension held over a period of time, or across generations, manifests itself as inflammation, a primary precursor to the top health issues: chronic pain, heart disease, cancer, arthritis, fibromyalgia, diabetes, obesity, etc., along with prolonged anxiety, mental disease and post-traumatic stress syndromes.
My Body, My Breath exercises extinguish patterns of tension and stress, inviting us to develop an organic means to relieve both inherited and present day afflictions. This transformation of suffering permits us to move forward with more clarity, calmness, and personal insight.
Focused breathwork reduces stress, enhances self-control, and minimizes the "fight or flight" response so that the limbic system of our brain can effectively integrate subconscious memories that perpetuate unhealthy behaviors.
The limbic system supports a variety of functions including epinephrine flow, emotion, behavior, motivation, long-term memory, and olfaction. Emotional life is largely housed in the limbic system, and it has a great deal to do with the formation and corruption of memories.
Breath is the vehicle of our awareness and altering breath patterns helps to deactivate neurological patterns of repetitive stress; as well as providing a resident resource.
My Body, My Breath cards are for self-application and for use in a therapeutic setting. One card can be drawn daily and practiced alone, in a group, or with a partner or counselor. There are 30 cards in the deck, allowing for a month of daily practice. You can also choose a particular card that addresses your immediate needs and practice the technique until you develop proficiency. Repeated use is always recommended.
